The Bajorans are a humanoid race, native to the planet Bajor, whose culture was known to flourish over 25,000 years ago by Terran reckoning. Bajorans are a very spiritual people, and their history has produced many great architects, artists, builders and philosophers. They have only recently been allowed to rebuild their culture following three decades of Cardassian occupation. Cardassia claimed Bajor in 2318, annexed it to the Cardassian Union in 2319, and occupied the system until 2366, when the Borg invaded the Alpha Quadrant. In an effort to repel the invaders, the Cardassian Union and Bajoran Occupational Government joined forces with the Klingon Empire, Romulan Star Empire, and the remnants of the United Federation of Planets to forge the Galaxy Alliance, where the Bajorans would remain, until 2405, when they seceded from the Alliance, and became the independent Democratic Republic of Bajor.
Physiologically, Bajorans are not unlike Humans, save for a small upper nasal ridge, and their preference to wear earrings on their right ear as part of their articles of faith. The Bajoran sense of spirituality is so strong that they have developed a very strong will due to their faith. Most Bajorans have studied their religion fairly extensively. Also, most Bajorans with a highly developed faith are also devoted to the rebuilding of their world. A good majority of Bajorans have a strong dislike (some, perhaps, an outright hatred) for Cardassians due to the Cardassian occupation of Bajor.
