Bajoran Defense Force
From WNOHGB Wiki
The Bajoran Defense Force was founded in 2405 to function as the military arm of the Democratic Republic of Bajor. The Defense Force is composed of two different branches of service: the Bajoran Navy, which ensures the safety of the Bajoran system and conducts interstellar missions on behalf of Bajor, and the Bajoran Militia, which consists of ground forces and domestic law enforcement.

Organization
The military forces of the Democratic Republic of Bajor act at the behest of the Bajoran First Minister and the Council of Ministers (see: Bajoran Government). However, neither provide direct oversight or supervision of the armed forces. Direct supervision of the armed forces is the responsibility of the Minister of Defense, who serves on the Council of Ministers and as a senior level advisor to the First Minister.
Chiefs of the Defense Force
Chief of the Defense Force
From the ranks of either the Navy or the Militia, one officer is selected to serve as the Chief of the Defense Force by the First Minister. This appointment must be confirmed by the Council of Ministers in order for the appointment to stand. This individual serves as the principal military advisor to the First Minister and is, by law, the senior head of the military. However, he or she does not have direct command authority over the operational components of the military branches.
Deputy Chiefs of the Defense Force
In the master military organization, the senior heads of the Bajoran Navy and Bajoran Militia serve simultaneously as the Deputy Chief of the Defense Force for the Navy and Deputy Chief of the Defense Force for the Militia, respectively. In their capacity as Deputy Chiefs of the Defense Force, they complete the three-person senior command and leadership team for the military components of Bajor. In their capacity as senior commanders, they oversee the operational functions of their respective military branches.
Defense Agencies
Seven agencies cross the distinct lines between the branches. These agencies provide services to both the Navy and the Militia and may be staffed or commanded by personnel from either the Navy or the Militia. Listed below are the seven agencies:
Interplanetary Affairs
Interplanetary Affairs is responsible for the Defense Force what the Minister of State is for government. This flag officer and his or her office establish, maintain, and supervise relations with other worlds, especially when the relations involve military interaction such as in the case of the exchange officers and status of forces agreements. This agency is also responsible for supervising colonial affairs and providing law enforcement at Bajoran colony worlds.
Security & Intelligence
Responsible for ensuring the safety and security of Bajor, security and intelligence is the senior agency whose head must be a high-ranking flag or general officer. This officer serves as a de facto member of the Chiefs of the Defense Force and frequently attends their meetings without specific invitation. This agency focuses on the "big picture" and coordinates with the respective military branches to provide the services needed.
Personnel Command
Overseeing all assignments and processing all paperwork related to its officers and enlisted men, Defense Force Personnel Command is commanded by an officer of flag or general rank. Personnel assignments may be done at the direction of the Chiefs of the Defense Force, at the request of the respective branches, or independently based on the needs of Bajor.
Medical Services
All commissioned and enlisted medical officers, whether Navy or Militia, technically are an asset of the Defense Force Medical Services. The executive head of this agency is an officer of flag or general rank carrying the title of "Chief Physician of the Bajoran Defense Force". This agency is responsible for overseeing all health-related services to military personnel.
Equipment & Supply
Coordinating all logistics and supply services, this agency ensures that all personnel and commands are sufficiently supplied. They also coordinate contracts with other organizations (e.g., Starfleet) to obtain supplies that are needed. The commanding officer of this agency has attained at least the rank of Captain but is not necessarily a flag or general officer.
Defense Material Command
Engineering and research and development functions of the Defense Force are the responsibility of Defense Material Command. The executive head of this command is a senior command, flag, or general officer who also holds the title of "Chief Engineer of the Defense Force". He or she is responsible for overseeing starships design and refit projects, weapons engineering and production, as well as construction projections.
Defense Academy
The Defense Academy oversees the training and preparation of all officer candidates for both Militia and Navy services. The head of this agency is a flag or general officer bearing the title of "Commandant", and he or she is responsible for ensuring the quality of training and education for future servicemen and women. Though the Defense Academy deals specifically with officers, the head of this agency is also responsible for collaborating with Personnel Command on training programs for new recruits.
