News Briefs: Protests Reach Second Week - Alliance Cuts Funding
ANTI-CHANCELLOR-ANTI-TZENKTHI PROTESTS REACH SECOND WEEK
Anti-Tzenkethi protests reached their second week along the border worlds of Trill, Ferenginar, Bajor and the colony at Beerax. Estimates from planetary security forces puts the numbers of protesters at the hundreds for each world.
Protesting what they feel to be an error in the Chancellor's judgement by releasing the Tzenkethi planet and resources back to their interim government without reparations for the destruction in the conflict last year, many protesters are calling on Chancellor L'vralus to immediately leave his current visit to the Tzenkethi homeworld and demand payment back to Alliance coffers. The self-proclaimed leader of these protests is Beeraxi Exchequer Bolek, a former political appointee of Chancellor L'vralus back when he was the Governor of Beerax.
The Chancellor's schedule brings him back from Ab-Tzenketh at the end of the month and through a number of local campaign and official stops before returning to the High Council Chambers at Sol.
ALLIANCE TO CUT OFF FUNDING TO SMALLEST WORLDS; DEFICIT BREAKS RECORDS
Speaking before the Galaxy Alliance Committee on Ways and Means earlier today, representatives from the Alliance Budgetary Office warned of steep cuts in aid payments to all worlds in the coming fiscal year, with many of the smallest colonies potentially seeing their aid reduced by up to 50%. This news comes on the heel's of yesterday's news that the Alliance's budget deficit may grow by as much as 25% next year, worsening the already severe cash-flow problems the Alliance has been facing. The testimony ended abruptly this afternoon, when representatives from various colony worlds exited the heading room in protest of discussions by the Ferenginar delegation in reallocating payments only to the most "prosperous" worlds. Quorum permitting, the committee is set to reconvene on Thursday.
