Out for the Count: Part Two (RP Log)

- Saith & Soah Coffeehouse [Deep Space 9]
- The smell of coffee and chocolate overwhelms the senses as you enter through the glass doors from the station's promenade, a little brass-colored bell attached high on the door dings whenever it is opened-- a purely novel gadget, surely. This is a small place, quite modest in appearance and setting. No more than three small tables sit overlooking windows to the bustling commerce area outside, windows that are partially obstructed by a display of boxes of tea and large bags of gourmet Rihannsu coffee.
- Artwork hangs on walls, bookshelves between the canvases hold a variety of well-worn Rihannsu literature and wooden bins of custom tea and coffee varieties. A little further back in the shop, a glass counter showcases no less than a hundred different types of chocolate confections, from the mundane to the extravagant. A row of clear glass containers sit atop the counter, also filled with sugary treats. This is one of those hidden gems that most visitors will pass by without a second glance; the sweets are heavenly and the coffee is ground and brewed as you wait. There hardly ever seems to be more than a few people in the shop at any given time. It is obvious that a place like this is about more than its wares. It is about relaxation and companionship, it is about unwinding from a long day and laughing with friends.
Giellun arrives from Promenade - Section B.
The door leading to Out slides closed.
Astor-Cross is sitting at a table toward the back. There is a cup of coffee sitting there, but looks to be untouched. Aly's feet are up on a second chair across from her. She seems to be reading something on a PADD.
Pryus-Talbot doesn't seem to look around when she walks in she simply makes her way to the counter and pushes her gloves in her bag before beginning to unfasten her hand wraps. "Um latte for me and whatever he wants." She orders gesturing to Giellun at he steps through the door.
Giellun shrugs as he steps in behind the more exhausted woman, stopping to grab himself a coffee, then hunting for a table to settle at.
Astor-Cross looks up from her reading when she hears voices. Her face shows nothing but a telepath would sense all mental barriers coming up quickly. She just watches, she doesn't say a word.
Pryus-Talbot sensing the barries a feeling of dread begins to fill her, she wasn't going to hide from her but it wasn't something she was looking forward to. Having unfastened one hand she tucks the binding into her bag before she collects her own drink and makes a payment. She slowly turns to look for him but her eyes are drawn straight to the woman, it couldn't be helped. She stops finding herself unable to move and the colour slowly draining from her face.
Giellun tilts his head between the two, noticing the tension build in the room. He glances back and forth between Pryus and Astor, but doesn't comment, waiting to see how it plays out.
Astor-Cross gives a brief nod of her head in greeting. So many things she would like to say, but it won't change anything, it won't make things better, will only make things worse. She picks up her coffee with obviously shaking hands. Spilling some on the table she says, "Crap!". Standing up to grab some napkins to clean it up brings her within touching proximity of Pryus and Giellun.
Pryus-Talbot frowns slightly, turning to pick up the napkins and pass them to Alynn. She doesn't say anything only stands there offering her the wodge of napkins in her bound hand.
Giellun tilts his head slightly, returning the greeting, moving to take a seat nearby.
Astor-Cross takes the napkins and says a strained, "Thank you" as she goes back to clean up the mess. She turns around and looks at the woman and says softly, "You know, I don't blame you for trying to find comfort or love from somewhere or someone, but I hope it was worth it with /my/ husband. His career may be ruined, or at least permanently marked, yours is ruined or at least your counseling career is. The only good thing to come out of this is that my marriage is stronger than it has ever been." She turns toward her table and then turns around and says, "And next time you tell my husband or anyone else that I'm having an affair, you better damn well have your fact straight." With that she sits back down, picks up her cup and promptly puts it down because her hand is shaking even more.
The door leading to Out slides open.
Senka arrives from Promenade - Section B.
"I didn't mean for any of it to happen ..." Kailyn doesn't really know what to say to her, "It wasn't worth it, none of it is. The ground breaking guilt, the knowing that I have ruined his life. I'm sorry for all of that, I'm sorry for not filing for a transfer and that could have possibly stopped my own husbands death." Her words are filled with emotion, raw hurt and guilt being the main ones. "I never said you were having an affair, at any point. I never said that. I was trying to make him see what he was missing, where he should have been spending his time. Not pushing you away." She closes her eyes and sighs softly still unmoving her hand still open from holding the napkins.
The door leading to Out slides closed.
Entering the establishment, the Vulcan officer takes in the tableau with a completely unreadable expression. Nodding briefly to Tr'Sahehn, his eyes flick from Astor to Pryus and back. The glance takes a tenth of a second or less, but comprehension comes with it. Advancing to the counter, he takes a Romulan latte from the subdued-looking Bolian along with three eclairs. Putting one in Pryus's open hand, he murmurs, "Consume it, Lieutenant." Crossing to Astor-cross's table, he raises an eyebrow, glancing at the empty chair.
Astor-Cross gives a slight nod to Senka as answer to his question. Facing Pryus again she says, "Someone told him I was having an affair and the logical conclusion would be you, and from what Adam showed me of the ..." she takes a deep breath, trying to tamp down her emotions, "day in question...." She shakes her head, "No. I can't do this. It has gone on far to long. It is killing me watching my husband mope around our home all day, looking worse and worse." The tears start to pool in her eyes but she tries to wipe them away before anyone can see them. "I can't live like this anymore. My marriage my be stronger but my husband is a wreck and so am I."
Pryus-Talbot blinks slightly as the eclair is put in her hand, eating was the last thing on her mind given the situation, "I never said you were having an affair at any point. I said many things to him but that was not one, for some reason people now thing I'm some kind of woman who sleeps with every officer with more pips on their collar than my own and that certainly isn't the case." She says slowly but upset, there are no tears she has none left. "You still have a husband and a marriage, I am truly sorry that it came to this, I really am. I could throw myself out of an airlock but that wouldn't change the situation, there is something so deep seeded in him that I was trying to work out. I'm not proud of what happened, but I'm glad we both had the sense to stop before something even worse happened."
"Being human," Senka offers in a tone somehow more neutral and devoid of expression than he usually manages, "it is entirely likely that the captain has drawn incorrect inferences based on the data at hand." Senka shrugs one shoulder as though suggesting that he doesn't really care what inferences people draw about him. Turning back to Astor, he studies her closely, seeming to assess her condition.
Astor-Cross puts on her CMed mask now and says very coldly, "You should have known better in the first place than to treat a man who made the order that killed your husband. That was a blatant conflict of interest. You as a counselor would have known that. And for that, I will see that you will not practice in that field again." She picks up the now cold coffee and drinks it. She doesn't look at Senka or anyone else, her focus solely on Kailyn.
Pryus-Talbot raises her brows, "I don't want to practice any thing again, don't you understand that? Why don't you finish it off? I've nothing left anyway, I have lost EVERYTHING." Her fingers curl around the eclair slightly as she offers herself open armed to Alynn.
The softest of sighs escaping his lips, so soft only someone who was both nearby and one who knew him very well could detect it, Senka recrosses to the counter, gets a fresh medium roast, brings it to Astor, and removes her cold sludge without interrupting the back and forth between the two women.
For the first time the telepaths in the room would get a glimpse as to what is going on in Aly's mind. It isn't a lot but the effort of holding her barriers so tightly closed are starting to falter. There is pain, a lot of it, hurt, and compassion. Yes, compassion for the woman who has lost everything, but far be it for Aly to actually verbally say anything about this. She is supposed to play the woman scorned and she intends to do that. She does offer, "I hope you find peace with all of this Kailyn..." Yep, even used the woman's name for the first time. "I hope you find what you are looking for but word of advice, stay away from married men." One last little jab.
Pryus-Talbot narrows her eyes slightly at Alynn before they close, how she wanted someone to finish her off. Giellun was all good and well talking about moving on and rebuilding when he was just sat there watching, how was she supposed to try and rebuilding things without the support? She was done with it all, she turns and puts both the eclair and latte on the counter before turning and leaving. She doesn't know where she's going but away.
