Saith & Soah Coffeehouse [Deep Space 9]
The smell of coffee and chocolate overwhelms the senses as you enter through the glass doors from the station's promenade, a little brass-colored bell attached high on the door dings whenever it is opened-- a purely novel gadget, surely. This is a small place, quite modest in appearance and setting. No more than three small tables sit overlooking windows to the bustling commerce area outside, windows that are partially obstructed by a display of boxes of tea and large bags of gourmet Rihannsu coffee.
Artwork hangs on walls, bookshelves between the canvases hold a variety of well-worn Rihannsu literature and wooden bins of custom tea and coffee varieties. A little further back in the shop, a glass counter showcases no less than a hundred different types of chocolate confections, from the mundane to the extravagant. A row of clear glass containers sit atop the counter, also filled with sugary treats. This is one of those hidden gems that most visitors will pass by without a second glance; the sweets are heavenly and the coffee is ground and brewed as you wait. There hardly ever seems to be more than a few people in the shop at any given time. It is obvious that a place like this is about more than its wares. It is about relaxation and companionship, it is about unwinding from a long day and laughing with friends.

"Damn it, Senka," the Bolian barista behind the counter is in mid spate, head ridge standing and blue finger waggling at the Vulcan standing before his counter in civvies, "You drink that stuff like it's going out of style. one day you're going to drag those ears in here and guess what?" The bolian waits. "I would not care to," senka murmurs. "NO ROMULAN LATTE!" The Bolian shouts gleefully. "Then what will you do?" "I shall, in that case, be constrained to find a new supplier of the beverage," Senka murmurs. "New supp--" the Bolian looks highly agrieved. "That's swell, Senka. All those hours you spent in here before you got that office. All those hours and eclairs and coffees with--" "Since you have Romulan latte to hand," Senka cuts in smoothly, "then we need not consider this eventuality any further. I shall have one now." Grumbling, the Bolian fills the order.

Fenri stands politely behind the Vulcan at the counter, awaiting her turn. she can't help but smile slightly as the Bolian attempts to argue and apply non-logic to an argument.

The Bolian spins around to you. "Help you mam?" His smile is ingratiating. He slips Senka's latte to him, and the Vulcan takes it, leaving payment on the counter. you may notice that he's left a sizable tip for the barista, argument or no.

Fenri sighs and looks at the Bolian matter of factly, "Decafinated Coffee, please."

Senka takes a small table opposite from where he usually sits. He sips his latte and watches the Bolian quietly make the order for you. When you receive it, he nods to you. "Fenri, I believe?" He adds, "though I am uncertain whether that is a familiar or familial name."

Fenri turns with her hot beverage, and does not modify it in any way. she approaches the Table, "I am unjoined, so it is the only name that I have."

Senka gestures to his table. "In that case, you are welcome to join me if you desire." The Bolian smirks at him. He gives the Bolian a deadpan stare.

Fenri slips into the proffered chair and smiles as she sips her coffee, "I never imagined that coming to a station that is such a hub that I would feel so isolated." She drinks some more coffee then shrugs, "thank you for looking at my back the other day, the muscle relaxer seems to have worked. I have taken to seeking solitude when I feel anxiety coming on as well, and the tension has not returned."

Senka steeples his fingers over his drink and considers you. "Why do you believe you are experiencing such anxiety and tension," he asks in Trill? You may notice improvements since your last meeting with him several weeks ago.

Fenri continues in standard, "Your Trill is improving," she mentions as she wobbles her mug slightly as she watched the dark brew swirl around the inner curves, "Because I left in such a hurry and didn't properly think everything entirely through and I am second guessing myself."

Senka nods, taking that in. his expression offers no hint as to what he thinks of what he's hearing. "Now that you are here, what do you desire for your future?"

Fenri pauses, lifting the mug to her lips. her face, except for her eyes concealed behind the ceramic curve. Her emerald orbs gazing intently at Senka's as she drinks. Tipping it back slightly she says softly, "I expect to expand my horizons, I look at my life as a blank canvas and an entire pallet of choices are available to me."

Senka tilts his head as though considering this. "In what areas does your background lie," he asks curiously. He adds, "TO be sure, one's background need not always be an indicator of one's future prosppects, but there is certainly corellation to be found."

Fenri smiles, "Oh, I have been trained in many specialities. Specifically Piloting and engineering." Senka nods. "Are you considering a career with one of the military forces that use or make port at this station? At least 3 come to mind. There is also at least one active civilian company, though they will not base their operations here when their station is built."

Fenri shrugs, "I have been approached by the Kingdom of Eden, but I'm not sure. I'm not ready to put any roots down yet, although I did take up quarters."

Senka nods. "I believe I may have seen the record of your quarters assignment," he murmurs. Sipping his beverage, Senka goes onn, "Have you found your interpersonal interactions with other station residents to be of value as you acclimate?"

Fenri's fair complexion turns rosy, "I was not in my full faculties on that evening, otherwise I have not engaged in private relations, Lieutenant."

Senka raises an eyebrow. "Your intimate relations are your own affair, Fenry. Though for the record I was speaking in the most general terms." A beat. "Unless you need to discuss that incident?" Naturally, he shows no signs of imbarrassment, though he considerately lowers his voice.

Fenri smiles at his discression, "I don't kiss and tell, Lieutenant." she hints playfully.

"Perhaps you do not," Senka murmurs. "However, the same cannot always be said of your erstwhile companion. Still, I have heard nothing and it is perhaps no longer relevant."

Fenri giggles and teases, "Have you considered if all her hair is rainbow colored?"

"I have not," Senka answers deadpan.

Fenri winks, "Something to ponder, or meditate on, I suppose."

"Why," Senka asks after a beat, "would I choose to devote meditative opportunities to such an irrelevant question?

Fenri mmms, "Is it irrelevant? Wouldn't it reveal something about her? Is she trying to conceal her true nature? Does she have an acute awareness for the attention to details? the list goes on and on."

Senka's expression remains deadpan. "Niian Inara is the common theme in that list of questions. I see no logic in meditating upon questions surrounding that individual," he murmurs, sipping his latte.

Fenri looks into her cup, keeping it tipped towards her as not to reveal the remaining volume, "you two have history, do you not?"

Senka asks, "What makes you think so?"

Fenri shrugs, "Mainly her body language and the sub-text of your conversation the other night."

"Ah. You mean to ask whether we have a romantic or a sexual past. We do not. She was once romantically interested in me, and I was forced to be most stringent in my discouragements."

Fenri shakes her head, "No, I don't care about that," she flaps a dismissive wrist in his direction, "There's something competitive between the two of you? Overlapping jurisdictions or something."

Senka considers your question thoughtfully. "Niian was recently relieved of her post of chief science officer owing to poor conduct during a recent station crisis. The departments of science and medicine have since been blended into one department under my supervision and my post was changed from chief medical officer to chief medical and science officer. I am now her department head rather than a fellow head of a separate department. That may explain what you observed. Her animosity, if animosity it be, is doubtless not personally directed at myself."

Fenri sets her mug down, "I get the feeling from my interactions with her, that she does not like authority, and much prefers to act independently."

Senka sips his beverage. "It would be a more accurate statement to say that she does not like to submit to authority. She does, however, crave to employ it." There's no hostility or dislike evident in Senka's face or voice. He seems to simply be stating facts.

Fenri hides nothing as she smiles a little, "There's no arguing that."

Senka nods. "Indeed," he murmurs. He awaits your next question placidly.

Fenri says, "So, what would you do if you were me?"

Senka raises an eyebrow. "Concerning the direction of your life, or something more specific?"

Fenri shrugs, "up to you."

Steepling his fingers, he regards you. "You have asked a question so non-specific that it is difficult to answer. Though in most general terms, if your coming here was a decision made without forethought, your most advisable course of action would be to give intense thought as to your life and what you wish to do with it. You are free to choose your future, Fenri. That is a liberating freedom to many beings. However, you are also responsible for choosing it, and that is a grave responsibility." he falls silent.

Fenri crosses her arms and leans back in her chair, "And about Niian?"

"That depends in part upon you. Do you desire a continuing sexual relationship with her," Senka asks?

Fenri raises an eye brow, "It scratches an itch."

Senka takes a moment to digest the ideom. "Then I do not see your reason for asking if you are satisfied with matters. Unless you are dissatisfied or troubled on a level beyond the merely physical."

Fenri chuckles, "Mr. Senka, I love the ability of the Vulcans to make the most scandelous gossip irrelevant."

"That, Miss Fenri, is because irrelevant is precisely the adjective that is most applicable to gossip," Senka murmurs. "However," he goes on, "my question remains valid."

Fenri shakes her head, "She is an intense and sensual female, Mr. Senka." but again she waves that off, "The question I am asking is if I am going to find that being in a relationship with the Bajoran Officer is going to create a level of complexities to my life that I would rather not have to be concerned with."

Senka considers you. "Were I to speculate, I would be gossiping. However, if I take your question on its face and am able to respond factually and with logic, then it becomes an open question whether that falls under the heading of gossip." A beat. "However, to answer your question succinctly, yes."

Fenri narrows her eyes and leans forward, "Can you speculate on the types of issues I may find myself having to face?"

Senka shakes his head. "No. I cannot speculate, because I rarely speculate. I can tell you factually, based on knowledge of past events, that monogamy is an issue that you may find contentious."

Fenri laughs, no blurts out a gaffah, "That is an expectation that I never had for her. But I can see where I might run into issues with other lovers."

Senka tilts his head slightly to one side. "I do not entirely understand. Are you saying that you prefer non-monogamous sexual relationships? Or that you were not expecting her to hold that preference? Or both?"

Fenri nods, "All of it. I could tell from teh moment she sat at my table that she was not one to be tied down in a relationship. I am also exploring my options and am not looking to settle down with any one person at this point in time." she reaches back and pulls the length of hair from her back to drape over her shoulder and sighs, "Someday, maybe. But not now."

Senka regards you levelly. "If you are both in general agreement, then logic suggests that we have satisfactorily answered your question."
Fenri nods, "Thank you Mr. Senka."

Senka nods. "It would create unnecessary conflict, perhaps, if you mentioned the import of this conversation to Niian. She may disprefer being the subject of our conversation, and while all that I have stated is true, I should not like her to contest her relationship conduct with me. That would create needless conflict between myself and a subordinate."

Fenri smiles and nods very seriously, "Of course, Mr. Senka. I understand that protocols must be maintained."

Senka nods. "An accurate understanding." Noticing both your cups, he offers, "would you care for another beverage?"

Fenri shakes her head as she stands, "No thank you, Mr. Senka. I should be returning to my quarters and thinking about my future."

Senka nods. He remains seated, pulling a kal-toh set from his duty satchel. "Very well. If you desire further assistance concerning that or anything else, you may find me in the infirmary when on duty. Off duty, I am often here.""
