Promenade - Section B [Deep Space 9]
This part of the promenade is not quite as congested as the primary concourse, yet people course through the passages at a steady flow.

Pryus-Talbot steps out on the core and scratches her head still realising she has a pair of cat ears on top of her head, she pulls them off gently and smiles before running her fingers through her hair.

Zeno manages to spot Pryus, just before she pulls off the ears and looks startled and confused for a second. He makes his way through the crowd, drawing closer to her.

Pryus-Talbot looks up through the passing crowd and her eyes fall on Commander Zeno, her subtle smile remains and she gives a nod as a greeting. "Good evening Commander," She says lowering her hands clasping the ears in both hands in front of her.

"Good evening, Doctor," he replies, and after a moment, he asks, "Did I just see you wearing cat ears?" in a slightly incredulous tone.

Pryus-Talbot laughs a moment and nods, it felt strange to be laughing again and on that thought her laugh fades to a trace of her smile across her lips, "Yes, yes you did. They were M'hrr's attempt to make me smile, he said I had to keep them on all day and it seems I exceeded that." She explains looking down at her hands, her smile widening a moment.

Zeno nods. "I can't say it was a terrible idea, I admit. Seems to have been effective," he replies, then after a pause while he tries to think of a way to continue the conversation, "How are you holding up?"

Pryus-Talbot nods again, "It was also an attempt to get others to talk to me instead of avoiding conversation." She adds as she gives a soft sigh, she hadn't been asked for some time and her smile turned to a frown. Her eyes close a moment, "I've stopped asking questions as I doubt I will find answers, I'd like to remember him as the man to asked me to marry him"

Saunders walks a different way to Morn's because he's in the mood for something different. But as usual his dog is right behind him. Saunders ignores Pryus because what she's talking about is none of his business and keeps walking.

Zeno's expression turns into one with a bit of sadness. "The pain will fade over time, but it's not something that will ever leave.. At least not in my experience." He shakes his head, "I'm sorry I took the smile off your face. I did have something to tell you though. I spoke with the commodore in charge of... The investigation, and I requested that a neutral counsellor be brought on board. I do not know what will come of it, but I thought since the station's counsellor was directly involved, some might need someone neutral to speak with."

Pryus-Talbot nods as he speaks, "I've had to counsel myself, I have not been given much of a choice in the matter. I understand the reasons why things happened the way they did, that man was not my husband Commander. It seems I lost him long ago." She says honestly looking down at her hands again. "I have yet to decide when I will be returning to my position, if I will at all."

"One last thing.. I don't know if you've convinced yourself of this or not, but it's not your fault," Zeno replies, "I've.. I've not made an intensive study of psychology, but in my experience, the more traumatic an event, the more it colors your perceptions, what a stranger would regard as something totally innocuous and normal, you regard as a red alert klaxon. And while I cannot speak for all involved, I cannot help but feel guilty over this too... I was his superior officer, and should have noticed... something. But the person I saw that day was entirely different from the person that was my subordinate."

Pryus-Talbot moves toward him and rests a hand on his forearm, "I know, he changed and I didn't push to find out why. None of us did, I should have done more but I didn't. He wouldn't have sought help and would have denied treatment like he did when we were in the infirmary. Nothing could have been done." She pauses to draw a breath she had told herself these things so many times but it didn't make it any less painful. "He was stubborn, we both know that."

Zeno rolls his eyes. "Gods know he was...." he says in an annoyed tone, Then with a somewhat stricken expression face, he says, "Sorry."

Pryus-Talbot smiles softly and shakes her head gently, giving his arm a slight squeeze, "I'd rather remember him like that. Than by what happened." She reassures him.

"Well, I do hope that the commodore brings another counselor in. Even if you do not decide to remain with DS9," Zeno says, "Starfleet always needs more doctors."

Her lips pinch slightly as she nods, Kailyn lets go of his arm and returns her hand to the ears in front of her. "I'm sure everything will turn out in the end." She says quietly.

Zeno nods. "If not... I'll.. hmm.. I'll have to think of something sufficiently strange enough to shock you out of moping, should the ears fail in the long run."

Pryus-Talbot shakes her head feeling a little defensive, "I'm not moping ... I'm-" She sighs dejectedly and returns the ears to her head, nesting them in her hair.

Zeno winces. "Sorry. Bad choice of words perhaps. I do not mean to make light of your pain, but the best treatment for depression I know of is laughter."

Pryus-Talbot shakes her head gently, "I think M'hrr wants to add me to his family." She sighs softly not so keen at the thought of moving on so quickly. "I know I want to be held and told everything will be okay but," She shrugs, "I think anything like that will lead to something I can't commit to right now."

Zeno shrugs and shakes his head. "I really can't say how that would affect things," he says, then adds a bit sadly, "I was long estranged from my family before the death of my father."

"I am sorry for your loss, any bodies loss. I have never felt a pain until I saw him like that," Kailyn answers honestly, "I will be fine, I have no choice but to move on with my life and cherish the memories I have."

Zeno smiles at that. "There is always a choice, Doctor. Moving forward is always the right one."

Saunders arrives from Inner Corridor - Section B.
The door leading to Habitat Ring slides closed.

Pryus-Talbot nods gently and smiles faintly, "It's the only direction I'm trying to move in." Kailyn’s eyes fall to the other betazoid and his dog, her nose twitches out of frustration.

Zeno looks at what the Doctor is looking at and spots the dog. He glances back at the doctor's headwear, and starts straining not to laugh.

Pryus-Talbot has quickly forgotten about her cat ears and returns her gaze to Zeno, "What's so funny?" She asks confusedly.

Zeno gets control of himself. "Dogs are known for chasing cats... and I just had a strange mental image of the dog chasing you."

Saunders frowns, "Hannah is actually pretty good with cats."

Pryus-Talbot blinks a moment and then realises what he meant, raising her hands to touch her headband, "Oh ... yea, makes me glad he didn't give me a tail too." She laughs softly and shakes her head. "Perhaps, but it doesn't mean that cats are overly accepting to dogs?" She peers past Zeno and looks at the timid looking dog. "I don't really want to explain to S'hado that his cat mauled someone’s pet."

Saunders shrugs, "I doubt cats are five feet tall," he points out.

Hannah stands on her hind legs, does her best to put her front paws down by her side... and shrugs?

"Most domesticated animals can be induced to accept each other," Zeno observes, "But there are many jokes and tales involving adversarial relationships between cats and dogs in Terran history."

Pryus-Talbot raises her brows at the dog and looks back to Zeno finding it difficult to believe what she is seeing.

Saunders glances at Pryus and then Zeno, "I can't explain it..." he shrugs, "I think she's trying to imitate humans." Hannah nods, still standing on her hind legs. She eventually goes back down to all fours.

Hannah looks tired.

Zeno blinks. "Odd dog," He observes.... "Well, regardless, I need to get on to other business. Be well, Doctor, Ensign."

Saunders laughs, "and you. " Saunders heads towards the exit.

The door leading to Habitat Ring slides open.
Saunders leaves for Inner Corridor - Section B.
The door leading to Habitat Ring slides closed.

Pryus-Talbot nods, "Stay well Commander."

Zeno salutes. "Yes ma'am.
