[Commplant] Incoming communique from Lieutenant Senka.
[Commplant] Opening channel...
[Commplant] Channel now open. Linked to Lieutenant Senka.

You say, "Talbot here."

[Commplant] Senka says, "Senka here, Lieutenant. Would you come to the infirmary duty office?"

You say, "Of course, I'm on my way."

[Commplant] Senka says, "Senka out"
[Commplant] Communication was terminated by Lieutenant Senka.

The door leading to Duty Office slides open.

Duty Office - Station Infirmary [Deep Space 9]
The spacious office combines both functionality and elegance. An oak desk bearing an engraved caduceus, the emblem of Starfleet Medical, holds the desktop terminal. Two chairs, adjustable according to the body-type parameters of a number of different species, sit before it. The walls are lined with plates containing texts handwritten in a variety of calligraphic styles, while a modest bookshelf contains a number of medical texts, historical works and works of literature in several languages: Betazoid, Rihannsu and Vulcan among them. A coffee maker sits off to one side of the office in a small seating area containing a loveseat, a chair and a low table.

Senka is standing near his desktop console. "Ah, lieutenant. We will begin your transporter training today. You may recall my information about my intention to do that."

Pryus-Talbot nods once as she makes her way to Senka's desk. "Yes, of course."

Senka nods. "Man the console please."

You man Desktop Terminal

Senka begins. "A transport is a multistep process that can be quickly accomplished once you know the steps to follow. We will begin with clearing the transporter settings. 'clear' will clear the device of targets. 'Reset' will clear the computer of the source and destination and set to defaults. Please clear and reset the transporters now."

[Desktop Terminal: Transporter targets cleared.]
[Desktop Terminal: All transporter locks reset.]

Pryus-Talbot follows the commands she has been given. "Complete." She answers glancing back to Senka.

Senka nods. You sense that his mind is calm and at ease. "Very well. Any transport requires three elements to be complete. A source from which you are beaming, a destination to which you are beaming, and a transporter target, the thing or person to be beamed. We will begin with the source. To initiate a transport from anywhere aboard DS9, you will set the computers with 'source this ship.' On the other hand, 'source here' will specifically lock the transporters on the room where you are standing. Please lock transporters on this office.

[Desktop Terminal: Source is: Deep Space 9]
[Desktop Terminal: Source is: Duty Office - Station Infirmary [Deep Space 9]]

The console gives a beep of confirmation for Kailyn's actions.

Senka nods. "There are transporter-specific sensor commands that will allow you to verify all that you are doing. Please use them at every step as you start out, because as you know, Lieutenant, a mishap with this device can be ... unfortunate. All transporter scanning commands are prefaced with 'transcan.' To scan your source, input 'transcan source.' Do so now and report the results."

Pryus-Talbot inputs the command and watches the screen report back, "It is listing what is within the selected location. In this case you and I as well as the equipment." She answers glancing up again.

Senka nods. "Now we will set the destination. Please input 'dest this ship' for a transporter lock on ds9. Then, perform a transcan of your destination. You will see all rooms aboard where you can transport. Docked vessels will also appear. Please set your destination to ds9, then to the infirmary. You will first set 'dest this ship,' and then dest with the room name. Use 'transcan dest' to determine the name of the room in question.

[Desktop Terminal: Destination is: Deep Space 9]
[Desktop Terminal: Destination locked.]

[Desktop Terminal: Destination is: General Ward - Station Infirmary [Deep Space 9]]

Pryus-Talbot sets the destination before scanning for a more precise location and selecting the General Ward. "Destination locked."

Senka nods.

Senka says, "Now you must set the target. Your source is set, and your destination is set. Please use the command 'patternlock' followed by your target. Lock transporters on myself."

Pryus-Talbot's widen in fear, "You want me to transport you? As my first test of my transport training?" She seems frozen to the spot.

Senka says, "I want you to lock transporters on me. That is all for the moment."

[Desktop Terminal: Senka locked into pattern buffer.]

Pryus-Talbot performs the action at his request, "Pattern locked into the buffer." She answers cautiously.

Senka says, "Finally, you will perform a transporter status command before all transports. The command will verify source, destination, and target. Please input 'transtat,' and report the results."

Pryus-Talbot inputs the command her hands shaking slightly and reads back the results, "Transport source Deep Space 9, Infirmary Duty Office. Destination location Deep Space 9 Infirmary General Ward. Target Lieutenant Senka within transporter range by 15.0 metres." She looks at Senka swallowing softly.

Senka corrects gently. "The transporter range value is 15.0 kilometers. That is simply the maximum range of the unit. Irrelevant to us. Now, 'energize.'

"Senka, please don't make me do this." Kailyn replies quietly tears forming in her eyes.

"Calm yourself, Doctor," Senka says quietly. "You have performed all steps correctly. I am in no danger. Please 'energize' now."

Pryus-Talbot swallows softly and performs the command with a shaking hand.

General Ward - Station Infirmary [Deep Space 9]
The entrance to this room is set with two different walkways around the top of this semi-hexigonal compartment. Several biobeds face inwardly, as rays of a sun, towards a central laboratory table. Monitors also are sprinkled about this room for access to lifesigns and patient information.

Pryus-Talbot skids slightly from her sprint from the duty office.

Senka nods. "Well done."

Pryus-Talbot closes her eyes and takes a relieved breath.

Senka gestures you back to the duty office.
The door leading to Infirmary slides open.
Senka leaves for Station Infirmary.

Senka says, "Man the desk and clear and reset transporter locks."

Pryus-Talbot runs her fingers through her hair before returning to the desk and manning the consol.

[Desktop Terminal: All transporter locks reset.]

The console emits and affirmative beep.

Senka nods.

Senka says, "Please briefly summarize the steps necessary for a successful transport."

Pryus-Talbot closes her eyes to try and regain her poise. "Clear and reset the terminal before use, select the sources location and then perform a transcan for the source location. If the location isn't is specified by the original input command to reselect using the correct information gathered from the transcan." Beat. "Next would be to repeat these steps but for the selected destination instead. Once confirmed and correct to select the target which would be listed in the transport source location and lock the pattern into the transport buffer. The final steps would be to confirm the information is correct within the transtat and energize."

Senka nods. Essentially correct." You can sense the Vulcan's respect for you increasing, because he is aware that you are performing this duty under significant stress and doing it well. All he says is, "Remain here. I will leave and comm you with further instructions shortly."

Senka leaves for Station Infirmary.

You say, "Talbot."

[Commplant] Senka says, "Senka here. Using only the transporter commands, and no other computer resources, locate me and transport me to the duty office. Please verbalize each step and notify me prior to energizing."

Pryus-Talbot sighs softly and pinches her nose, "Fine. Bear with me."

Pryus-Talbot taps and bites her lip, "I am ready to energize, stand by ..."

[Commplant] Senka says, "Did you perform transtat?"

Pryus-Talbot sighs and flexes her fingers out of frustration, "Yes Lieutenant. Reactor core to the duty office, locked and in the buffer."

[Commplant] "Proceed," Senka says calmly. "When I am there, clear and reset transporter locks."

You say, "Yes Lieutenant."

"I did as soon as you ... Yes Lieutenant." Kailyn performs the action again.

[Desktop Terminal: Transporter targets cleared.]
[Desktop Terminal: All transporter locks reset.]

Senka nods. "Well-done, Lieutenant. THat will due for today. You should review these protocols, and we will continue tomorrow."

Pryus-Talbot runs a hand over her face and nods, "Very well Lieutenant."

Lieutenant Senka taps a control on Desktop Terminal.
Desktop Terminal beeps and goes dark.
You unman Desktop Terminal.

Senka says, "That is all that is required of you at this time. if there is something else you would rather do, you may certainly go." He's not kicking you out, but genuinely giving you the choice.

Pryus-Talbot shakes her head gently, "I have nowhere else to be at the moment." She answers honestly moving from her seat at his desk.

Senka nods. Flicking on the coffee maker, he produces a cup of Jestral tea and hands it to you.

Pryus-Talbot nods gently as she takes a seat in front of the desk, grasping the cup in both hands as the warmth spreads across her skin. "Thank you."

Senka nods. "How have you found your return to duty?"

Pryus-Talbot nods gently, "Easier than I thought it would be." She answers honestly.

Senka nods. "That is well."

Pryus-Talbot smiles faintly from behind her cup, "Yes, I need to talk to the Captain about acquiring a counselling space that is more private and contained."

Senka nods. "I understand. The duty office would be unsuitable. But I am certain he can make a suitable accommodation.

"I'm sure he will be able to." Kailyn answers before sipping her tea.

Senka nods. "You can also commence your sessions with him at the same time, I am certain."

Pryus-Talbot nods again, "Yes, I can. I hear there is also concern over the wellbeing of Lieutenant Niian?" She asks quietly.

Senka shrugs. "I have heard no such concerns. She has been releaved of her position as chief science officer because of her recent performance." Senka stands. "In any case, I am going to utilize the transporter and depart. Please clear the settings and lock the console when I am gone."

Lieutenant Senka mans Desktop Terminal.
Lieutenant Senka taps a control on Desktop Terminal.
